Just a few weeks more...Den 3 has August 6 – 18, and Den 9 has August 19 – 31. Thank you to all scouts and families for their hard work!

 

 

Fishing Derby

Saturday, August 29

9am – 1pm

Antlers Park

 

This is a family event - lots of fishing, contests, sandcastles, food and fun!

 

3 events in one!

  • a fishing contest with prizes for categories like biggest fish, smallest fish, etc.
  • a bottle fish contest for scouts and siblings(see more information below)
  • a sand castle building contest, again for both scouts and siblings (see rules below)

 

Bring:  fishing equipment, finished bottle fish, and sand castle construction items such as shovels, pails, etc.

Fishing Derby, continued...

 

At noon we wrap up the event with lunch. The pack will provide hot dogs, buns, drinks and paper products.  Families are asked to bring the following (please provide covers for everything to help deter the bees):

 

 

Food Assignments per Den

a.      Wolves (Den 3)= Fruit

b.      Bears (Den 1, 2) = Desserts

c.       Webelos 1( Dens 8, 9) = salads/veggies

d.      Webelos 2 (Dens 6, 7)= chips and condiments

 

General Fishing Derby Assignments:

a.      Den 7: Food Preparation

b.      Den 6: Sand Castle contest judges and criteria

c.       Den 2: Bottled Fish contest and criteria. 

d.      Den 9: Hospitality

e.      Den 1: Take pictures and submit to newspaper

f.        Den 8: Write thank you notes to donors; include a picture if possible.

 

 

Bottle Fish Contest:

Use a 16oz or 20oz bottle(s) to create a fish.  Use as many bottles as you’d like.

Cut, glue or paint your fish to decorate it.

Use your imagination and have fun!

Certificates will be awarded for two categories: 

Most Unique Fish and the most Realistic Fish.

 

 

Sand Castle Contest Rules:

Teams will be formed by random selection.

Teams will have 30 minutes to organize their team and build/decorate

a 3-Dimensional creation mainly made of sand.

Creations can be anything!!!!  (They do not need to be a building).

All participants must be of elementary school age, but do not need to be scouts.

 

Judging will be based on 5 categories:

- Teamwork,

- Structural appearance,

- Artistic appearance,

- Use of available and natural beach materials,

- Originality.

 

 

 

Hey Scouts! You are encouraged to bring a friend to the Fishing Derby that is interested in scouts – if your friend joins, you will earn the Recruiter patch!

 

                                     

                               

 

                                CVE Open House

                                                                Wednesday, August 29

                                                                4 – 7pm

 

                                Many committee members have signed up to help at CVE Open House.

                                Please contact Debbie Moege if you can help set up from 3:30pm – 4:15pm.

 

 

September Awards Deadline

August 29

 

Families: We know how hard our boys have been working all summer on achievements and belt loops. Please give this information to your den leader before August 29th so it can be turned in to Kristen on time. Den leaders need to turn achievements in to her by the 29th. Thank you!

 

 

Parent Participation Meeting

Thursday, August 30

6:30pm

 

All leaders and parents are invited to attend the monthly Parent Participation meetings. Please join us and contribute your ideas/comments/suggestions. We can all work together to make our Pack bigger and better. Please contact your den leader or Debbie Moege to learn more about these meetings.  Thank you to the Baklund’s for hosting the August 2nd meeting!

 

 

Join Scouting Night

Information on Join Scouting Night will be available to families at CVE Open House.

 

ALL SCOUT FAMILIES ARE ASKED TO SAVE 2 LITER POP BOTTLES FOR THIS EVENT.  PLEASE DROP OFF THE CLEAN, EMPTY POP BOTTLES AT THE BAKLUND’S HOME – FRONT PORCH DROP OFF IS FINE.

 

 

Kick-off Pack Meeting

September Surprise Kick-off.   Join the fun as we kick-off Pack 268's Scout year.   We will welcome all new Scouts and their families and introduce new Tigers and Tiger Den Leaders.   Pack families will want to be on hand to celebrate as all current Scouts receive their summer achievements.

INVITE A FRIEND TO JOIN OUR CUB SCOUT TEAM!

 

All Pack 268 Scouts are encouraged to invite their friends to join our Pack.   Scouts who invite a friend who then joins Pack 268 will receive the coveted "Recruiter" patch.

 

Tell your friends that all potential scouts are welcome to attend the Pack's annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 25th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.    The Scout Fall Youth Recruitment night is set for Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherry View gyms.

 

Boys who join by September 20 will receive a Timberwolves ticket!!

And another HUGE thank you for accepting the treasurer position goes to Todd Weigand. The pack so greatly appreciates the giving of your time and talents!

 

 

HELP WANTED

 

1.       DVD Player: The Pack needs to borrow someone's DVD player to play Scouting Clips at the Open House on August 29th at 3:00 p.m. AND at the Scout Round-up on Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 6 p.m.   (In the past, Committee Chairs Ken and Tina Nelson have always generously loaned us this piece of equipment.)

 

2.     Computer Projection Screen: The Pack also needs to borrow someone’s computer projection screen for the Scout Round-up on Wednesday, Sept. 12th and for the Pinewood Derby.   (In the past, Cubmaster Don's office has generously loaned us this piece of equipment but the Pack needs to find a new resource.)

 

 

PACK FAMILY SWIM

We had 70+ people at the Pack Swim at Redwood Pool on July 29. It was a great evening!

 

 

CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

All committee members need to complete the Fast Start and Basic Training classes online with

 the Northern Star Council website.  All members must renew every 2 years

 

 

PACK STORAGE – LET’S SOLVE THIS PROBLEM TOGETHER!

The Pinewood Derby Track as well as all of the other Pack belongings are TEMPORARILY residing in the Baklund’s' garage.  Parents -- please talk to anyone you know who might be willing to store our Pack things.  Call Kathie Baklund for more information 952-953-0535.
